THE RESPONSIBILITY OF LIBERTY

"Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."  John Adams 1798.

"We have staked the whole future of American Civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it.  We have staked the future of all our political institutions...upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern OURSELVES, to control OURSELVES, to sustain ourselves, according to the Ten Commandments of God." James Madison 1778.

"Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murders of mothers, for manslayers, for whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine..." I Timothy 1:9,10

It follows then that the less righteous we are as a nation, the more regulation and restriction we can expect upon our liberty, for "...where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (II Cor 3:17).  Therefore WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS NOT, THERE IS TYRANNY.
